Hi. I hope you’re doing well. I’m writing because I want to give you a burst of inspiration, whether you are in the middle of the worst writer’s block in the entire world, or even if you have been cranking out 1000 words every single day. And if that’s the case, I am supremely jealous. Keep at it.
There are going to be a lot of things working against this passion you have: responsibilities, time… okay, mainly time. There will be people who will write you off (pun intended) as being unimportant or imply you’re wasting your time, and there will also be people who put an equal amount of pressure on you through saying things like, “I wish I could do that,” “I’m not creative enough,” or “Your writing is the best thing since the Bible!”
Don’t let these things get to you. If you love to write, write for you. And sometimes, maybe you won’t feel like you can do it and you won’t feel creative enough and you won’t feel like your writing is the best thing since the Bible (especially on that first draft, yikes). However, even with all these things floating around in your mind, keep writing.Write absolute garbage.
Write what you want to write in that moment.
Creativity is a muscle, not a skill. When you keep creating, whether it’s words on a page or potentially something different, your muscle will be strengthened and you will be better able to be inspired and creative. Keep writing not because you owe it to anybody else, but because you owe it to yourself.
Good luck, friends–
P.S. In the meantime, don’t miss out on registering for this year’s Young Author’s Conference on June 18th.
